the wood has been already plied and cut into the specified size needed when it arrives at the TAMA factory. But in a manner of speaking, the wood still alive: Th shape and timbers are still affected by humidity, temperatur and weather as they changed from day to day.
Only the the most advanced craftsmen, who have the experience and technique of takumi can asses the ahe apropriate size and cut the material in response to the ever changing environment. The craftsmen's personal touch and technique, wich have been acquired during the history of the TAMA factory in Japan, are what ultimately create "the sound of TAMA drums" from the live wood

Tips Tuning Drum

Tuning Snare Drum High Tension mempunyai cara yang berbeda setiap brand -nya. Tentunya untuk Pearl Championship Series mempunyai cara tersendiri pula. Berikut adalah tip-tip cara tuning Snare Drum Pearl Championship Series

1. Pilih Drumhead /membran yang tepat

Ada beberapa tipe drumhead yang biasa dipakai untuk memaksimalkan suara dari Snare Drum . Untuk head atas pilihlah yang berbahan kevlar karena memang Snare Drum Pearl Championship Series dirancang untuk tekanan tinggi. Sebaiknya memakai dari REMO Drumhead, dan ada dua tipe yaitu Falams II dan White/Blackmax . Masing-masing mempunyai karakter yang unik, namun harus kita kembalikan ke pelatih , karakter apa yang diinginkannya (Alat Drum Band).

Untuk Head bawah ada dua tipe juga, Kevlar dan Mylar. Kevlar adalah jenis drumhead yang dirajut dari bahan dasar sutra, sedangkan mylar adalah jenis drumhead yang berbahan dasar campuran kimia plastik. Kevlar untuk lebih memaksimalkan suara snappy snare dan tuning yang jauh lebih tinggi. Tapi pada dasarnya drumhead mylar sudah cukup (Alat Drum Band).

2. Pemasangan Drumhead

Prinsip dasar yang diharapkan dari Snare Drum ialah suara yang tinggi dan tekanan head yang kencang sehingga pantulan stik bisa lebih responsif. Untuk itu kunci utamanya terletak pada proses pengencangan baut (Alat Drum). Tekanan setiap sisi bautnya harus sama rata, yang paling aman adalah mengencangkan secara silang. Untuk mengetahui apakah tekanan cukup sama rata yaitu dengan memukul di daerah dekat bautnya, suaranya harus sama. Begitu juga dengan drumhead bawah. Asal tekanannya sama, drumhead tersebut bisa dikencangkan semaksimal mungkin tanpa ada resiko pecah. Tekanan atas pasti akan lebih kencang dibandingkan yang bawah, itu karena bahan kevlar yang lebih tebal pada drumhead atas. Lihat Marching Band dan Alat Marching Band

3. Nada Drumhead

Walaupun drumhead atas tekanannya lebih keras tapi nadanya harus setengah lebih rendah daripada head bawah (Drum Band). Standar tuning yaitu C untuk drumhead atas dan C# untuk head bawah. Head bawah lebih tinggi untuk mempercepat respons dari snappy snare -nya, sehingga bisa mengimbangi tekanan head atas yang kencang (Marching Drum Band).

4. Tekanan Snappy Snare

Untuk mengencangkan masing-masing nylon snare, maka posisinya off dulu. Kemudian masing-masing nylon snare dikencangkan sampai bernada dan terdengar stabil. Akan lebih baik kalau masing-masing nylon snare tersebut bernada sama. Lalu posisi on-kan snare tersebut dan posisikan bentuk nylon snare tersebut sama rata menyentuh head bawah. Jangan sampai tekanan kiri dan kanan berbeda sehingga ada posisi salah satu nylon snare miring ke atas. Setelah melihat nylon snare menyentuh sama rata di permukaan head , putar lagi knob stainer untuk memperkencang tegangan nylon stainer. Pastikan setiap permukaan nylon snare bergetar sama rata di sepanjang permukaan drumhead bawah (Alat Drum).

5. Penambahan Peredam

Ada beberapa orang yang merasa karakter suara snare drum-nya terlalu basah, sehingga menambahkan selotip atau tape pada nylon snarenya, untuk membuat sedikit garing. Pada dasarnya untuk Snare Drum Pearl Championship Series itu tidak diperlukan, secara logika kalau nylon snarenya diredam, berarti suara snarenya akan hilang dan namanya bukan snare drum lag (Drum Band)i. Namun kalau memang dibutuhkan, tambahkan satu atau dua strip saja pada sudut yang berseberangan dari tempat posisi on/off nylon snare, sehingga tidak menggangu kerja pedal on/off tersebut.

Nah setelah itu Snare Drum Pearl Championship Series anda sudah bisa dipakai secara maksimal

Tips Tuning Snare Drum

Gimana sih sebenarnya untuk menyempurnakan suara drum loe? Berikut beberapa tips dan teknik untuk mendapatkan suara yang terbaik dari drum loe :

1. Tune dari satu sisi ke drum yang lain, mirip dengan cara memasang velg mobil.
2. Jika loe memiliki lugs (skrup) yang keluar saat loe bermain karena getaran, loe dapat menggunakan pengunci lug.
3. Bila loe tuning head bagian bawah snare drum, tekan stick di sisi snare sambil memukul head snare untuk mendapatkan tone nada dan setelan yang rata.
4. Getaran dari suara alat musik yang lain terkadang menyebabkan lugs untuk keluar. Loe mungkin akan menemukan nya terjatuh di lantai.
5. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi drum suara adalah:
- Akustik dari ruangan
- Jenis drum shell
- Seberapa keras loe tekan drum
- Kualitas drum
- Jenis head drum yang digunakan
- Jenis muffling (damper/peredam) yang digunakan
- Jenis selesai pada drum (memecahkan dlm lapisan tipis atau stain)
- Ventilasi yang dari drum. Ukuran dan penempatan
- Bagaimana cara menyetel rims
- Untuk menemukan bahwa “sweet” spot pada drum. Setiap drum memiliki tempat tertentu di mana suara yang terbaik secara konsisten.
